The painting is the copy of a detail from "Girl Reading a Letter at an Open Window" (c 1657–59) by Dutch Golden Age painter Johannes Vermeer. The well-preserved painting is on display at the Gemäldegalerie in Dresden. For many years, the attribution of the painting was lost, with first Rembrandt and then Pieter de Hooch being credited for the work before it was properly identified in 1880. After World War II, the painting was briefly in possession of the Soviet Union.

I have done a series of detail copies of the work by my favorite Old Masters; Vermeer is one of them. I didn't have the pleasure of studying the original in person yet, but I absolutely love the curious gaze of the woman reading the letter: Is it from a lover? Is she a little worried? By the way, one of the tried and true techniques of classical art training is to copy the work of the Old Masters, those who painted before the 18th century. The buyer gets to own a hand-painted copy of a museum piece.

The painting size is 12" x 12". Signed in the back; varnished. The painting is framed in an antique gold, wooden frame and ready to hang for your pleasure. The framed size is 15.75" x 15.75".

Oil on oil-primed Belgian linen on sealed masonite panel. The painting is mounted on panel with archival glue. In other words, I have used a top quality material, which guarantees a long-term conservation of the painting.
