This bronze larger-than-life-sized figure depicts Hans Christian Andersen (1805–1875), Danish poet, novelist, and author of fairy tales including The Ugly Duckling and The Little Mermaid.

I visited the fairy-tale-like monument when cherry blossoms were blooming and trees were just turning green on a sunny early spring afternoon. The monument was backlit, one of those happy occasions when everything was perfect, with no crowds!

Sculptor Georg John Lober (1892–1961) shows the writer seated on a bench appearing to be reading his semi-autobiographical Ugly Duckling story to an attentive 2-foot-high bronze “duckling.” The sculpture was first unveiled in 1955 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Andersen’s birthday. To this day it continues to attract children who enjoy sitting in the writer’s lap.

The painting size is 8" x 8". Signed on front; varnished. The painting is framed in a beautiful antique gold wooden frame and ready to hang for your pleasure. The framed size is 11.25" x 11.25".

I used to sell my oil paintings unframed at a lower price. Then I realized most collectors don't ever get them framed. Alas, a painting looks so much better when framed and it's important for its safe preservation.  In return for a higher shipping tag, I spare you from the high cost and hassle of framing job. All you have to do is find a perfect spot for the painting!

Oil on oil-primed linen on panel. The painting is mounted on Baltic birch panel with archival glue. In other words, I have used a top quality material, which guarantees a long-term preservation of the painting.
