The painting depicts the red ochre cliffs of Roussillon, the first thing that will catch the visitor's eye as you approach the village.

Situated in the heart of one of the biggest ochre deposits in the world, Roussillon in Provence, France is famous for its magnificent red cliffs and ochre quarries. The red, yellow and brown shades of the earth form a striking contrast with the lush green pine trees.

High on the hill above a plateau, the village of Roussillon attracts thousands of visitors each year who come to see its picturesque red buildings, which are built from ochre, a mineral that naturally occurs in the surrounding cliffs. Throughout the 18th century, ochre was used as a pigment in the textile industry and, in its heyday, hundreds of people worked in Roussillon’s quarries. The ochre makes this village stand out from others in the South of France with its pink, orange and red hues giving a unique color to the houses.

If you have been to Roussillon, you will instantly recognize the scenery. I hope you enjoyed the visit as much as I have!

The painting size is 8" x 8". Signed on front; varnished. The painting is framed in a beautiful antique gold wooden frame and ready to hang for your pleasure. The framed size is 11.25" x 11.25".

I used to sell my oil paintings unframed at a lower price. Then I realized most collectors don't ever get them framed. Alas, a painting looks so much better when framed and it's important for its safe conservation.  In return for a higher shipping tag, I spare you from the high cost and hassle of framing job. All you have to do is find a perfect spot for the painting!

Oil on oil-primed Belgian linen on Baltic birch panel. The painting is mounted on panel with archival glue. In other words, I have used a top quality material, which guarantees a long-term conservation of the painting.
